Platinum Provenance
Our Declaration
Metal Concentrators SA (Pty) Ltd declares that the platinum used in our jewellery manufacturing process is sourced directly from a London Platinum and Palladium Market (LPPM) member in South Africa.
The platinum used in MetCon’s manufacturing process is mined material from South African producers and the supply chain was verified in accordance with the Responsible Jewellery Council Code of Practice and Chain of Custody requirements. The platinum was refined using processes that meet international environmental standards.
Supported by our partners, Anglo American Platinum, MetCon are one of the few refiners in the world to produce a platinum provenance certificate, accredited and approved by the RJC.
View our certificationsWhy is platinum provenance important?
Platinum is one of the rarest precious metals on Earth. Its immense value makes it prized yet puts it at risk of disreputable activity.
Platinum provenance — that is, the proof of origin of platinum — is important because it means sustainability; social, economic and environmental. Provenance ensures we are working with a vetted and verified supply chain in which all people and practices have been audited by international specialists. Provenance ensures a conflict-free resource that has in no way contributed to terrorism, perpetuation of war or the compromise of human rights. Platinum that is responsibly sourced should, in fact, maintain and sustain the environments and countries from which it originates.
What is a Conflict Resource?
A conflict resource is a natural resource that has been attained or extracted in a conflict or war zone. The trade of these resources frequently perpetuates the continuation of the conflict from which they arise, often at the cost of lives. A declaration to refuse conflict resources removes the ability of players to profit from conflict resources, denying the exacerbation of conflict and compromised human rights. As part of our provenance declaration, MetCon does not and will never source platinum that is a conflict resource.
Our Experience
MetCon was the first company to receive permission from the South African Diamond and Precious Metal Regulator (SADPMR) and the South African Reserve Bank to produce minted platinum bars. Established in 1989, we have a fair and evidenced history and are acutely aware of the impact a precious resource like platinum can have on economies. We do all we can to make sure our offering is one that benefits as many as possible, as responsibly as possible.
Our Provenance Mark
Our unique mark of provenance is your guarantee of superior quality and traceable origin. It is inspired by the San people, indigenous hunter-gatherers of Southern Africa. Regarded to be the earliest inhabitants of the region, the San are born of the cradle of humankind.
VISIT THE CRADLE OF HUMANKINDWe take our declaration seriously. Rest assured that the ethical standards of a MetCon platinum product, from metal through process to piece, are of the finest in the world.

Earthly Origins
Fortunately for MetCon, the vast majority of Earth’s platinum reserves are on our doorstep. A rich reserve is located in what is known as the Bushveld Igneous Complex (BIC); a large area in the north of South Africa. More than 2 billion years old, its rock layers are several kilometres thick and play host to over half of the world’s platinum, chromium, palladium and refractor minerals. Thanks to the BIC, South Africa is currently the world’s leading platinum supplier.
